Tasting Notes 2005
Te Mata Estate Woodthorpe Merlot/Cabernet ‘05 is bright crimson in colour, with aromas of dark plum, blackberry and red roses. The palate shows currants and spice characters on ripe, powdery tannins with a long, ﬁne ﬁnish.
Te Mata Estate Woodthorpe Merlot/Cabernet ‘05 is a blend of 57% Merlot, 34% Cabernet and 9% Petit Verdot. It is a natural partner to grilled red meats and hard white cheeses. It will continue to develop in bottle for 3-6 years from harvest.

The Individual grape parcels of each variety from each plot were destemmed and given a warm, plunged fermentation with extended maceration on skins. The resulting wines were run off to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 16 months’ maturation. During this time, they were regularly topped and racked, then blended, egg white ﬁned and given a light ﬁ ltration prior to bottling in August 2006.
Te Mata Estate Woodthorpe Merlot/Cabernet ‘05 was harvested from Woodthorpe vineyard between the 4 and 23 of April 2005.
