Tasting Notes 2004
Woodthorpe Cabernet/Merlot 2004 is a rewarding, complex wine. It has a dark ruby colour, aromas of blackberry, clove, and vanilla with a juicy, supple palate showing plum and currant flavours on a sustained finish.
Woodthorpe Cabernet/Merlot 2004 is a classic blend of Cabernet varieties and Merlot with a small amount of another Bordeaux variety, Petit Verdot, which provides a distinct
currant and spice note to the wine. It is a wonderful accompaniment to all the savoury dishes that suit full flavoured, quality red wines and will continue to develop in bottle for 3-6 years from harvest.
Total acidity as tartaric: 5.5g/l
Residual sugar: Dry
The individual grape parcels, of each variety from each plot, were destemmed and given a warm, plunged fermentation with extended maceration on skins. The resulting wines were run off to a mixture of new and seasoned French oak barrels for maturation. During this time, they were regularly topped and racked, then blended, egg white fined and given a light filtration prior to bottling in August 2005.
Woodthorpe Cabernet/Merlot 2004 was harvested from Te Mata Estate’s Woodthorpe vineyard between the 4th April and the 1st May 2004.
