Elston Chardonnay '18

Produced since 1984, Elston is an outstanding New Zealand chardonnay, grown at Te Mata Estate’s oldest vineyards on the hillsides above the winery. It is rich and complex with flavours of fresh pineapple, white peach and nougat.

Tasting Notes 1994

1994 Elston Chardonnay has a full golden-green colour. It has an aroma of nectarines, butterscotch and pineapple, with a toasty, soft, and crisp finish.

1994 Elston Chardonnay will improve steadily in the bottle for 4-5 years from harvest.

It should be consumed lightly chilled, either on its own or with seafood and poultry, either plain or with creamy sauces.

The grapes were whole cluster pressed, drained, the juice barrel fermented and then aged on lees until January 1995.


1994 Elston Chardonnay was made from grapes that were hand harvested between the 31st March and 11th April.


Elston is named for Elston Hall in Nottinghamshire, the ancestral home of Charles Darwin’s family. Darwin’s ‘theory of natural selection’ forms the basis of modern evolutionary theory, the foundation of biology. The wyvern symbol of Elston Hall appears on the label.
